Gentleman Party!

ENG - I can finally show you the complete party! It's been a few crazy days, baking, decorating, kids, work, home.. well, you can imagine.
I decided to make a small sweet corner because we weren't that many. Although I must confess the cake could feed almost 30 people!
I wanted a classic design but with a modern twist, so I used a chocolate brown base and classic font and spiced it up with the turquoise and chevron pattern.
I designed the simple yet lovely banner and covered the ends with 2 newspaper' fans. So easy to make!
I also wanted to make a hanging sign, so I used 2 long toothsticks to create that effect.
Sweets were really simple: various shapes of butter cookies (hats, ties, moustaches), vanilla cupcakes with chocolate topping (they were turquoise inside) and the cake. This cake was delicious, or at least that's what everyone told me. Chocolate and vanilla layers, flavoured with vanilla custard and raspberry jam and a touch of rum, covered in vanilla buttercream.
For decoration purpose, and for those with a sweet tooth I placed some chocolate balls and sugar covered almonds in beautiful glass jars.
As a gift, I baked some extra cookies with the "40 & 1/2" engraved on top. I hope you like it!

Gentleman Party 40 & 1/2

ENG - Today is Javi's 40th birthday (I can not believe it!) and a few weeks ago Alejandro turned 1/2 year old ;) So I thought of throwing a father-son party to celebrate, and the perfect excuse to do a gentleman party and use those cute moustache stamps I bought. This is really his last chance of celebrating a boyish party, since from now on he will be sharing birthdays with Daniela.
So I already started decorating, baking cookies and did some online shopping.
And this afternoon there's more baking and baking. In a few days I will let you know how it all went. Here's the invitation design and some of my purchases.

Nuestro Calendario de Adviento / Our Advent Calendar

ENG - This is the first time I make an Advent Calendar. We didn't put one in my house when I was little, but I think it's great when you have kids. Now that Daniela understands and participates in the activities, it's so nice to see her face when we open the little papers.
I had many ideas and inspiration, but so little time I couldn't even go shopping for accesories. So I decided to make one with things I found at home. I remembered about this cupcakers liners, that although I love the colour, I know they're not good for baking. I printed the numbers, and with a punch and some washi tape I came up with this. The little papers you see contain the activities. I decided not to put any treats in it as Daniela is already too keen on chocolate as it is.
I'd love for you to share some of the activities you put, especially for the little ones, because I must admit I was a little lost at first ;)

Enhorabuena mayi, Mariantxu y Patchades!!!!

ENG - Yesterday Christmas "oficially" started in my house and I finally could do something I had been dreaming of for a long time. As you all know, I love baking, and although I'll never be as good as other friend bloggers, I still like getting in the kitchen, putting on some music and disconnecting for a little while.
And yesterday I could finally do it with a special little helper, Daniela. As you can see in the photos, she became very involved with every task she was given and enjoyed it a lot.
The mixing of ingredientes I did myself, had a bit of a hard time with the butter mixing, it was so cold I could not get it to mix properly. Once the dough was done, I let it rest in the fridge for 1/2 hour aprox. One hour is recommended but I was running out of time. (You know, life with 2 kids.. haha )
First she rolled the dough. Then she chose the cookie cutters (she especially loved the little gingerbread men and the squirrel. We cut the cookies, placed them in the baking tray, baked them for about 15 minutes aproximately and after letting the cool off we tried them!!!
You can see the step by step recipe in this post. I have used this recipe for the last couple of years and I quite like it.
I wasn't sure if Daniela would like the taste, but I was pleasantly surprised when she did. I did change the original amounts of spices so it wouldn't be so strong. This is the recipe I was inspired on.
